General Language-Learning Advice |
1) Immerse yourself in the language!
This is by far the most important advice. The more time you spend immersed in the language, the faster and more you will learn. You should listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand and connect to. Even if you partially understand, the more you keep listening and reading, the more you will get used to the language.
2) Focus on words and phrases!
Build up your vocabulary because you'll need lots of it when you practice the language. You should focus on how words are used and assembled to create phrases and sentences. Use online dictionaries while creating your personal lists for later review. Do not worry about how accurately you speak until you have accumulated a plenty of words through listening and reading and don't get frustrated if you cannot remember or understand.
3) Find an e-penpal!
Penpals can help you strengthen the language you are learning and teach you about different cultures. It's fun, educational, and rewarding.
4) Watch TV & listen to the radio!
This is a classic way to improve your listening comprehension. If you start listening with captions, try to gradually give up captions. Eventually, you want to listen and understand without captions. Also try respected and unbiased news sources for native speakers. We have a wide variety of channels that you can browse through.
5) Find native speakers in online communities and networks!
The online social way to learn a language has greatly picked up lately. Many online language-learning communities now blend safe-paced lessons with vibrant and interactive tools that help you communicate with the rest of the world.
